Meet your Commissioners

Abbie Hodgson, Board Commissioner and Volunteer Firefighter

Abbie Hodgson was appointed to the Taghkanic Fire District Board of Commissioners in 2024 and will stand for election in 2025. She currently serves as the Communications officer.

Abbie serves as a volunteer firefighter, having joined the Taghkanic Fire Company in 2023. She is deeply committed to supporting the volunteers and first responders who safeguard the community. As a commissioner, she brings a strong belief in operational transparency, fiscal responsibility, and clear communication. She is dedicated to ensuring the district delivers high-quality fire and emergency services, is a responsible steward of taxpayer resources, and earns the trust of the residents it serves.

In addition to her role with the fire district, Abbie is a professor at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business, where she teaches courses in business communication and leadership. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas and has spent over two decades working at the intersection of public service and strategic communication.

When she’s not in the classroom or at the firehouse, Abbie enjoys raising chickens and bees on her small farm in Taghkanic.
